MAYFLOWER GULCH 🏔
A slightly challenging uphill walk 1.5 miles, Mayflower Gulch is the definition of a perfect hiking payoff.
Located out past Copper Mountain a short drive, Mayflower Gulch might be easy to miss. It has a decent parking lot for being in the middle of nowhere, with plentiful parking on a Monday morning (but I’d get there early on a weekend).
It’s a short hike uphill, but you do climb about 500ish feet in elevation, so bring good shoes! It’s rocky and can by a bit damp (the rocks help prevent it from getting muddy).
Once you reach the end, WOW 🤩 there’s a breathtaking field at the base of the mountains with old cabins and running creeks to add to the scenery.
The cabins are old and falling apart, so proceed with caution! There’s old nails and pieces of wood falling apart, so be mindful of your kids exploring inside and around the ruins.
You can add to the hike by ascending up the mountain another 1.5 miles (making it a total of 6ish miles), but we just wanted to hang out, enjoy a picnic, and take it all in. There was plenty of space for our kids to run around while we laid in the sun 🌞
Is it busy? 🤷♀️ We went on a Monday morning and saw few people, but started to see more as we approached the noon hour. Get there early!
It’s an in and out trail, so the walk back down is east peasy. The kids will thank you 😊
